Intern Perspectives: Sofia Duarte

Growing up in Buena Park, California, Sofia knew she had a passion for music after her first concert at the tender age of seven (Bruce Springsteen at the LA Sports Arena). As a student at UC Berkeley currently on the path to a Media Studies degree, Duarte has had a thrilling experience with The UC Theatre’s Concert Career Pathways program.

What’s your favorite thing about The UC Theatre? I’ve really enjoyed the community and support the theatre has given me, along with the wonderful staff!

Who’s your favorite act you’ve seen play The UC Theatre? Definitely Peter Hook and The Light.

What’s so special about the Concert Career Pathways program? This program has given me the opportunity to gain a more holistic view of the music industry. The rich opportunities it has presented — being able to work in a professional environment surrounded by likeminded peers.

The Concert Career Pathways program has been a big part of what makes The UC Theatre so unique. The program combines workshops and paid internships alongside industry professionals, providing opportunities that empower young people while simultaneously strengthening the local economy. Sofia claims that the program has opened many doors for her both professionally and socially.
