This past August, The UC Theatre (UCT) officially launched its Concert Career Pathways Program, a combination of workshops series and paid internships for young people ages 17 to 25. Our first cohort consists of 16 young people from diverse backgrounds around the Bay Area, all whom have a deep passion to learn the technical, creative, and business aspects of concert promotion. The program started with a workshop series taught by UCT staff in marketing, front of house operations, production, and show budget and Finances. In early Fall they continued by shadowing department heads of The UC Theatre, gaining a first hand glimpse into the key components of concert promotion. By the end of October, all participants will be placed in paid internship positions working alongside industry professionals.

Nancy Garcia (age 19) is a dancer who is usually on stage. Interning for The UC Theatre has been a great opportunity for her to work behind the scenes and learn the ins-and-outs of putting on a live music concert. She says, “I appreciate The UC Theatre staff because they make this entire experience better.”
Kayla Kettmann (age 19) says, “Getting involved in the internship program at The UC Theatre has genuinely opened doors for me that I didn’t even know existed. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to be exposed to aspects of concert careers that before had been completely unfamiliar to me.”
