On Saturday, April 1 2017, Tinariwen and Dengue Fever rocked The UC Theatre with a sold-out show to celebrate our one year anniversary. But that’s not the only thing that happened… Berkeley’s mayor Jesse Arreguin presented The UC Theatre with a proclamation, thus declaring April 1, 2017 as “The UC Theatre Day” in the city of Berkeley.
The month of April marks The UC Theatre’s one-year anniversary. A year may not seem like a lot to you, but the past 365 days here at the Theatre have been magical. On Thursday, April 7th of 2016, we finally opened our doors, after 420 days of construction and years of planning. Within the first year of opening, The UC Theatre has already welcomed acts from Toro Y Moi to Hieroglyphics – even Green Day stopped by.
Mayor Arreguin’s proclamation is a great honor, and to be able to say that The UC Theatre has its own day is remarkable. This honor is completely justified, as Jesse Arreguin asserts in the proclamation, “The UC Theatre’s opening has given birth to an exciting new place… The UC Theatre strengthens the Bay Area’s fabric of vibrant arts and service organizations.” The mayor’s proclamation declaring April 1, 2017 as the official UC Theatre Day was a great way to kick off our one-year anniversary festivities. A big happy UC Theatre Day to all, and here’s to many more years at The UC Theatre!
