My interest in the music industry started in high school where I’d perform at local events with vocal ensembles. When I recorded a demo with one of the ensembles I was with, that’s when I knew my dream was behind the mic and the mixing console. After that, I would go to concerts and try to talk to the sound engineers but quickly found out that the music industry can be discouraging. None of the sound engineers would take me seriously.
When I joined the program here at The UC Theatre, I had found solace in coming to the venue for my shifts. This program has saved me and made me believe in myself again.
Through the internship program, I was able to shadow other women in audio, participate in all the amazing speaker sessions, and get more experience in live sound engineering. It’s empowering seeing an environment so diverse like this because it makes me feel like I can achieve my dreams. And I hope to do the same for other young women by starting my own mentorship program.
